Holiday Gifts for New Moms

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Is there a new mom in your life? Maybe its a friend, your sister-in-law, your wife even. Holiday shopping can be tough with so many options. Now that she’s a new mom, it might feel even more important to get something she really loves. If you need more insight into how she’s feeling, take a look at my posts on labor & delivery and postpartum, too. Here’s my ideas for the best holiday gifts for new moms.

Pampering

Whether it’s a massage, manicure & pedicure or a facial, new mom’s often have given up the time they used to have to take extra care of themselves. Think about what she likes best – were her nails always perfect before baby? Maybe her arms and shoulders are worn out from carrying her bundle of joy 24/7? Adjust this recommendation to what fits this mama best. You may want to schedule it yourself, or give her a gift card to a spa or massage therapist.

Local Memberships

One of the most fun things to do with a new baby is to take advantage of your local venues and attractions. When considering holiday gifts for a new moms, memberships to one of those places can be a lifesaver. This can run the whole gamut of what’s available to you locally. Here in Tucson, we’re lucky to have the Tucson Botanical Garden, Reid Park Zoo, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Tohono Chul, and a variety of state and national parks and monuments. Any new mom’s city will offer similar options, from gardens to zoos and even museums. Experiences are a great thing to offer to a mom who isn’t looking to add more stuff into her house.

Photo Session

With a new member of the family in tow, this new mama may have had newborn photos or something similar. But babies change so fast – every minute it seems – so a photo session can be a great idea. This one is handy because it can be as big or as small as she likes. Just mom and baby, the new family, or the whole extended family! If she’s worked with a specific photographer before, look into purchasing a gift certificate or credit for a session. This is the gift that keeps on giving as mama can look at these photos for years to come. If you’re in Tucson, we love going to Lauren Antosh Photography for our photos (and she has some mini-sessions going right now, see her Instagram for more).

New Clothes

If this mama is anything like me, there was a lot of shopping for maternity clothes, but not much for postpartum clothes! New moms rarely have the time, energy or opportunity to shop for new clothes for themselves. Sure doesn’t keep us from shopping for baby! Be sure that the mama you’re buying for won’t be hurt if you offer. If not, gift cards or cash designated to beef up her wardrobe can be a great gift. In addition, try to coordinate so she can shop on her own – no baby to hold will make a difference. Some suggestions for gift cards could be Target, Gap or Old Navy – they have more moderate prices and often flexible options that might work for her new postpartum body.

Mom Jewelry

This one is a special one. There are endless options out there for jewelry to match everyone’s taste, but there’s something special about pretty and simple jewelry that celebrates her becoming a mom. Here’s a few options that caught my eye: a spaced letter MAMA necklace from HopebyHannah, or one in script by LoveAlwaysXODesigns, and gorgeous initial pendant necklaces by GLDN, too.

As a rule, make sure that whatever you get mimics what your new mama already wears – don’t purchase something big and flashy if she’s more of a rustic and natural style or vice versa.

Have the holidays snuck up on you? I feel like I think about Christmas shopping for a week or two in July, and then all of the sudden it’s November and I’m scrambling! Hopefully this list sparks your imagination toward thoughtful gifts for the people you love.
